在金相试样制备过程中，试样的预磨，是抛光前常用的前道工程，先将试样预磨光后，可大大提高试样制备的功效，YM-2A预磨机，是通过对多方面的调研和采集多方面使用人员的意见及要求设计而成，为适应更多材料预磨的需要，该机的磨盘直径大于国内同类产品，磨盘的转速也不同于国内同类产品，是试样预磨的较好设备。
YM-2A预磨机的工作原理：先由清水通过水管不断流入旋转的磨盘中，这时浮在水面的砂纸在旋转磨盘离心力的作用下，将砂纸下的水抛出盘外，形成真空，大气压便将砂纸紧紧地压在磨盘上，即可进行预磨工作，当磨盘旋转停止后即失去这种作用，此时砂纸便可自由取下。

Working Principle of YM-2A：Through pipe, water flow to the rotating grinding wheel. The eccentrical force throws the water under grinding disc, and forms vacuum which attracts it to do pre-grinding work. Stop rotating, the eccentrical force loses and the grinding disc can be taken off.
